Douglas Homocystrol + TMG is a high-quality dietary supplement which contains B vitamin complex, betaine, choline and magnesium. Ingredients and their forms were selected to support actively cardiovascular function, mainly by providing methyl groups required for reducing levels of atherogenic homocysteine. It shows also far-reaching effects on other structures – the liver, the central nervous system and motor system.

The formulation provides highly bioactive forms of B vitamins – methylcobalamin, pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P), L-methylfolate and riboflavin-5-phosphate. These are active forms which does not have to be converted and can be used readily by the body.

The product contains:
Riboflavin (riboflavin-5-phosphate) – otherwise known as vitamin B2. Its presence is necessary for processes of aerobic respiration and production of energy required for cell function. It is also a cofactor of the enzyme MTHFR which is involved in the conversion of folic acid, required for reducing homocysteine levels.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) – supports enzymes which convert homocysteine into cysteine (vitamin B6) or methionine (vitamin B12) to help complete the metabolic cycle.

L-Methylfolate (Metafolin®) – the most effective, active form of folic acid which is formed in the body by the enzyme MTHFR and may be a direct donor of methyl groups for reducing homocysteine levels, along with choline and its oxidised form trimethylglycine (betaine). L-Methylfolate is the only form of folate capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. What is more, it does not mask vitamin B12 deficiencies and contribute to the accumulation of unmodified folic acid in the body.

Magnesium – as the most bioavailable chelate form, it is a key microelement for the functioning of muscle tissue – it prevents excessive muscle cramps. Since the heart is the most important muscle of the body, it regulates its function and is thus an essential preventive measure against arrhythmia.

Helpful in maintaining healthy homocysteine metabolism
Cardiovascular diseases are nowadays the most frequent diseases in the population. Their causes are different and often hard to eliminate. However, we can have a real impact on some of them. A healthy diet, which provides proper macro- and microelements, may delay its progression.

One of the compounds with toxic effects on the cardiovascular and nervous system is homocysteine. It is an intermediate in the metabolic cycle which facilitates the formation of two amino acidscysteine and methionine. It is not possible without proper enzymes which need cofactors – vitamin B2 (involved in folic acid metabolism), vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 (which regulate the conversion of homocysteine into cysteine or methionine), and donors of methyl groups for regenerating methionine – betaine, choline and L-methylfolate.

A deficiency of these biomolecules may be caused by an unhealthy diet, but it is also observed in smokers, the elderly, excessive alcohol consumers or individuals on contraceptives. It is recommended to monitor homocysteine levels and protect effectively against hyperhomocysteinemia, which may be a risk factor for atherosclerosis that has dangerous consequences.

Other effects of ingredient complex
Along with hyperhomocysteinemia, abnormal carbohydrate and fat metabolism is a frequent cause of cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis and its complications. Betaine and choline  have been shown to protect in multiple ways against excessive homocysteine levels.

These compounds increase primarily insulin sensitivity of liver cells which may store excessive glucose, and thus ensures its proper distribution throughout the body On the other hand, they inhibit the activity of enzymes responsible for lipogenesis, thereby decreasing the accumulation of stored fat, especially as visceral fat, and thus impair significantly the function of the cardiovascular system.

Support for the nervous and motor system
Involuntary muscle contractions are a feeling that is familiar to every human, regardless of age or physical activity. The main cause which comes to mind is magnesium deficiency. In this case, it is recommended to supplement with well-absorbed forms, including magnesium chelate. Its action at the molecular level is to inhibit the influx of calcium ions which initiate a contraction by promoting the secretion of neurotransmitters in the neuromuscular junction and cause tetany seizures in excessive amounts.

Another molecule which supports the functioning of muscle tissue is riboflavin. Its main task is to participate in the processes of metabolic energy production in muscle cells. As a result, fibres provided with an adequate amount of energy may function as effectively as possible.

To sum up, Douglas Homocystrol + TMG is a product designed for everyone who is at risk of a deficiency of biomolecules which leads to an increase in homocysteine levels.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is soluble in liquids, is involved in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Required for growth of the organism. Takes part in the production of erythrocytes (red blood cells). It is located in natural foods, such as yeast, meat (especially liver, kidney, heart), milk, fish and green leafy vegetables.
A deficiency of vitamin B2 inhibits the growth, diseases of the mouth, loss and greasy hair, seborrhea and stratification of nails. Increases skin roughness and
susceptibility to acne and oily skin.
Dosage: 1-2 mg per day.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, pyridoxamine) is soluble in the liquid. It participates in the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. By reducing the amount of fat in the blood do not enable deposition of the body. It helps the absorption of magnesium and vitamin B12 (cobalamin). It works on the muscle antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory pain in the joints. It acts anti. It provides efficient operation of the brain. It increases energy increasing vigor of a man. The demand for vitamin B6 increases during pregnancy and breast-feeding infants. The natural product is: yeast, eggs, wheat germ, meat (liver), wheat bran, nuts, peanuts peanuts, soybeans. There is a hypothesis that can be synthesized by intestinal bacteria.
Deficiency of vitamin B6 causes abnormal metabolism of proteins, decrease in lymphocytes in the blood, causes a feeling of lethargy and fatigue intensifies.
Dosage: 1.5-2.5 mg daily (increased demand during pregnancy and lactation).

Pyridoxal 5-phosphate (P-5-P)

Pyridoxal 5-phosphate (P-5-P) - the form of vitamin B6, called coenzymatic, considered the best assimilable form of this vitamin by the human organism. This is related to direct metabolic activity of pyridoxal-5-phosphate in the human organism. It does not have to be subjected to biochemical transformations in the organism in order to be able to enter metabolic pathways as a biologically active ingredient.

Vitamin B6 is an incredibly important factor regulating the work of many processes in the organism due to its role in the organism as a coenzyme, essential for the activation of many important enzymes. Thanks to this, it regulates metabolism at many levels and its proper supply is conducive to maintaining homeostasis of the organism.

Another aspect of effectiveness of vitamin B6 is its influence on the normalization of emotional states. It is conducive to relaxation, facilitates falling asleep and falling in a deep, the most valuable sleep. Special influence on P5P on the psyche is proven in women before menstruation, as it demonstrates considerable ability to reduce the symptoms of the pre-menstrual syndrome.

Supplementation with vitamin B6 also demonstrates positive influence on the functions of the nervous system. It is conducive to the nourishment of neuronal tissues and optimizes the secretion of neurotransmitters, thanks to which it promotes nervous transmission and demonstrates neuroprotective properties. It was proven that vitamin B6 may decrease the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.

Some sources also suggest the ability of pyridoxal 5-phosphate to reduce the risk of cancer. This effectiveness is noted especially in relation to breast cancer.

Vitamin B9 (Folic acid)

Vitamin B9 (folic acid, folacin, vitamin M) is part of a complex of B vitamins soluble in water. It takes part in the production of red blood cells, in cooperation with vitamin B12, preventing anaemia progression, its molecules are involved in catalysis of hematopoietic processes. Together with vitamins B6 and B12 it helps in the treatment of hyperhomocysteinemia. It eliminates disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract. It affects the proper functioning of the immune system. Necessary during pregnancy, because its deficiency causes neural tube defects in the fetus. The natural ingredient of yeast, eggs, liver, green vegetables and it is synthesized in the gastrointestinal tract by intestinal bacteria.
Dosage: The daily requirement is 0.1-0.2 mg.

Metafolin® is a stable and bioactive form of folic acid with high bioavailability, patented by the German pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA.  After ingestion, the compound may be directly utilised by the body, irrespective of the presence of disorders (e.g. a MTHFR gene mutation) which hinder conversion of other forms of folic acid into their active forms.

The efficacy of Metafolin® has been confirmed by numerous clinical studies. For instance, it has been demonstrated that this is the only form of folic acid which is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. What is more, Metafolin®has passed extensive toxicological safety testing.

In supplementation, Metafolin® is used primarily in women planning pregnancy or who are pregnant and individuals with methylation disorders and elevated homocysteine levels. Scientists also suggest that there is a correlation between folic acid deficiency in the cerebrospinal fluid and the risk of dementia and depression. Because of that, it may be effective in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases and depression.

Metafolin® can be used not only in dietary supplements but also as an addition to drinks and food.

Dosage: according to individual requirements for folic acid.

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin, cyanocobalamin) is a vitamin soluble in liquids. Participates in the production of red blood cells and is essential in the absorption of iron by the body. It calming effect, a positive effect on concentration and memory. Intensifies its action in cooperation with folic acid (vitamin M). Usually occurs in animal products, fish and dairy products. It contains trace elements.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to pernicious anaemia, general and immunity weakness, inhibiting of growth and damage to the myelin sheath of nerves.

What is methylcobalamin?

Methylcobalamin is a biologically active form of vitamin B12. It is one of the two forms of this vitamin that may be used as cofactors in various reactions. It differs from popular cyanocobalamin in the presence of methyl group instead of cyanide, thanks to which it releases the organism from the need of neutralizing this harmful factor.

The methyl group from methylcobalamin may be transferred to homocysteine, thanks to which it comes back in the form of methionine in order to be further converted to SAMe, which is the main donor of methyl groups in our organism. These methyl groups may be then used in the processes of creatine production, in neurotransmitter metabolism and as DNA methylation, thanks to which we achieve proper energy level, better well-being and generally better condition of the organism. B12 is a coenzyme for three enzymes: isomerase, methyltransferase and dehalogenase.

Apart from the influence on the nervous system, the supply of vitamin B12 is also very important for the proper synthesis of red cells as well as hemoglobin and anemia prevention.

Methylcobalamin in mono-supplements and complex vitamin preparations may be found in the offer of

Magnesium (element from the group of alkaline earth metals, atomic no. 12, a chemical symbol - Mg), one of the most important health microelements, participates in the synthesis process of the disintegration of high energy compounds and processes of transformation of hydrocarbons and fats. It affects the dilation of blood vessels and lower blood pressure, prevents hypercoagulable state. Shortages affect cardiac arrhythmias, malignant muscle cramps, insomnia and anxiety. It is a component of many dietary supplements and found in foods such as whole grain bread, legumes, buckwheat, rice, fish, meat, as well as chocolate, cocoa and nuts.
Dosage of 100 - 500 mg / day

Betaine (N, N, N-trimethylglycine, the TMG) is methyl glycine derivative participating in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. It is present in food of plant origin and produced by the body in the liver or kidneys. The medicine uses it in the treatment of gastrointestinal and digestive disorders and hyperhomocysteinemia. In the supplements that increase the level of homocysteine used together with glycocyamine, indirectly influences the endogenous synthesis of creatine. There is no mono-preparation supplement containing betaine. Available in creatine stacks and the detoxicating supplements.

Choline belongs to the soluble in liquids group of B vitamins. It is an organic nitrogen base containing lecithin, and acetylcholine. Together with inositol is involved in the metabolism of fats and cholesterol metabolism, preventing its accumulation on the walls of arteries and deposits in the gallbladder. With the penetration of the brain, contained lecithin improves its action and improves memory. Used in the treatment of age-related diseases (Alzheimer's). It occurs in plant foods: yeast, wheat germ, lecithin, green leafy vegetables and egg yolks.

Choline Bitartrate

Choline bitartrate a combination of one molecule of tartaric acid and choline, and in this embodiment is a precursor of acetylcholine (neurotransmitter). The human body is able to intracellular synthesis of choline, using the amino acid and vitamin B12. Because of the possibility of shortages of the above mentioned substances, it is necessary to supplement them with supplementation. Choline is a component of lecithin, which is the building substance of cells conditioning the proper functioning of the nervous system, and sphingomyelin, acting as an insulator of nerve tissue. Bitartrate affects the course of fat metabolism. In the sports supplementation of choline, bitartrate is used in the stimulating supplements,, affecting concentration and programs of weight control (fat reduction).
Dosage: 1-3 grams per day.
