Agmatine is a compound which belongs to biogenic amines, i.e. amino acid derivatives. It is occuring naturally in the human body where is formed by the decarboxylation (removal of carbon dioxide) of arginine.
Agmatine has a similar function to its precursor. By activating NO synthase, an endothelial enzyme, it stimulates the production of nitric oxide (NO), a biomolecule with a vasodilating effect. Vasodilation may be achieved also by the activation of alpha-2 adrenergic receptors by this amine, resulting in the inhibition of pressor amine release.
This action is used in strength sports to increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, required for very strenuous training sessions. While supplementing with agmatine, athletes experience a so-called muscle pump – a significant increase in the size of trained muscles, caused by increased blood flow to myocytes.
Our store offers supplements with agmatine sulphate – the most bioavailable form of agmatine. In order to appeal to different preferences, agmatine is available as single-ingredient supplements or complexes of active ingredients which enhance its vasodilating effect.
