Methyl B-12 Methyl B-12

Now Foods Methyl B-12 is a dietary supplement containing as much as 5,000 mcg of vitamin B12 in the form of active methylcobalamin, enriched with 400 mcg of folic acid.

Vitamin B12 – a vitamin with a complicated structure, containing a cobalt molecule as the central atom of the corrin system. It’s known for its wide range of effects on the functioning of the nervous system and the condition of mental health. It helps to regulate energy metabolism. It plays a role in homocysteine metabolism and cysteine synthesis. It has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the immune system.

Folic acid – one of the basic vitamins that plays a key role in the processes of cell division and the development of the nervous system, particularly in maturing foetuses. It participates in DNA synthesis. It supports normal amino acid synthesis and blood production, and helps to regulate homocysteine levels. It can reduce the feeling of tiredness.

Advantage of the methylated form over the traditional one
Most dietary supplements and fortified foods contain vitamin B12 in its most popular and cheapest form – cyanocobalamin. Unfortunately, it’s not an active form, and some health issues can distort the process of its methylation; as a result, it might not have proper effects. The methylated form is a ready, biologically active vitamin that can be used as a cofactor in enzymatic reactions.

The presence of cyanide also seems to be a problem. Apart from its toxic properties, the organism also needs some vitamin B12 to dispose of it, which seems to be a highly undesirable detail when you try to supplement it. Using methylcobalamin solves the problem.

Health of the nervous system
The neurological aspect is the greatest strength of both vitamins. For example, B12 affect the process of forming neurolemmas that protect neurons from damage, which can potentially reduce the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases. Its ability to regulate the process of cell division and stimulate the production of nucleic acids, such as DNA molecules, is also relevant for the health of the brain. Folic acid, on the other hand, has the strongest influence on the development of the nervous system in foetuses and neuroprotection later in life.

Support for homocysteine metabolism
Homocysteine is a marker of the risk of cardiovascular system diseases, such as atherosclerosis and heart attack. Its harmful activity stems from its pro-inflammatory properties that can damage blood vessel walls, and later on, atherosclerotic plaques and clots can appear in them. The marker is even more important than the infamous cholesterol.

One of the ways to reduce elevated homocysteine levels is supporting the pathway of its remethylation to methionine with the help of vitamin B12 and folic acid. Thanks to that you can not only reduce the risk of developing circulatory system diseases, but you also obtain a number of benefits from increased amounts of methionine and SAMe.

Better mood and reduced tiredness
The supplement affects the mood particularly thanks to its influence on the synthesis of SAMe, which provides methyl groups for many biochemical reactions, including those engaged in creating neurotransmitters responsible for a good mood and mental health. The vitamins themselves are also cofactors for enzymes that produce neurotransmitters, so the beneficial effect is doubled.

When using the supplement, you can expect mainly a reduction in the feeling of fatigue and tiredness during the day. It can also improve concentration and well-being, reduce irritability, and enhance sleep quality.

Regulation of energy metabolism
Vitamins B9 and B12 participate in the transformations of macrocomponents – proteins, carbohydrates and fats. They also affect glycogen transformations and amino acid synthesis. Thanks to its participation in the conversion of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA, vitamin B12 makes it possible for propionate to enter the cycle of pyruvate transformations.

Deficiency consequences
The most noticeable symptoms are those that affect your everyday functioning – low mood, irritability, chronic tiredness and concentration problems. There are also significant problems with the process of blood production, as deficiencies of the vitamins can reduce the amount of red blood cells, leading to anaemia.

Now Foods Methyl B-12 is recommended for people with vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiencies in the blood. It’s also great for vegans and vegetarians, seniors, and those who have problems with food digestion and nutrient absorption. Using it proves particularly beneficial in the case of low mood and energy, as well as insufficient red blood cell production.

Methylcobalamin

Information

What is methylcobalamin?

Methylcobalamin is a biologically active form of vitamin B12. It is one of the two forms of this vitamin that may be used as cofactors in various reactions. It differs from popular cyanocobalamin in the presence of methyl group instead of cyanide, thanks to which it releases the organism from the need of neutralizing this harmful factor.

The methyl group from methylcobalamin may be transferred to homocysteine, thanks to which it comes back in the form of methionine in order to be further converted to SAMe, which is the main donor of methyl groups in our organism. These methyl groups may be then used in the processes of creatine production, in neurotransmitter metabolism and as DNA methylation, thanks to which we achieve proper energy level, better well-being and generally better condition of the organism. B12 is a coenzyme for three enzymes: isomerase, methyltransferase and dehalogenase.

Apart from the influence on the nervous system, the supply of vitamin B12 is also very important for the proper synthesis of red cells as well as hemoglobin and anemia prevention.

Methylcobalamin in mono-supplements and complex vitamin preparations may be found in the offer of muscle-zone.pl.

Folic acid

Information

Folic acid - also known as vitamin B9, is a synthetic form of naturally occurring folates. It needs to be transformed to folates in order to be biologically active also in the human organism. Therefore, its supplementation is recommended to people who do not have problems with methylation processes.

The majority of people associate folic acid with the period of pregnancy. It is definitely a justified association. Proper supply of vitamin B9 conditions correct development of the fetus and prevents disorders of neural tube defects in a baby.

Supplementation with folic acid also demonstrates positive influence on the functions of the nervous system of adults. Some sources say that it is conducive to maintaining beneficial emotional states. Moreover, folic acid takes part in the process of erythropoiesis, thanks to which it enables efficient production of red cells.

Supplementation with folic acid should be also considered by men who deal with low sperm quality. It was proven that complementing the level of vitamin B9 is conducive to increasing reproductive abilities of men.
