Seeking Health Folinic Acid is a dietary supplement providing the organism with folinic acid in the form of calcium salt; a metabolically active form of vitamin B9. This form demonstrates high, more than 90% bioavailability and may be quickly metabolized to other forms, mainly L-methylfolate (the metabolism of which is bilateral; the excess of methylfolate may be retransformed to folinic acid).
Folates, folinic acid, folic acid, methylfolate – what is the difference?
We should clearly highlight the differences between the concepts of folates, folinic acid, folic acid and methylfolate, as similar names may be confusing. Folates stand for the name of the group of compounds demonstrating analogous features to folic acid. Folates include various compounds, i.a. folic acid, folinic acid and methylfolate.
Folic acid is the most basic form of folates, however, it is not directly used by the organism. It needs to undergo proper metabolic processes, which is indicated as its fault, as we need to remember about the loss of the active substance, in each subsequent metabolic process (in other words, it is not very metabolically active). A final product of the cycle of folates is methylfolate, taking part in the processes of methylation in the organism. One of the indirect products is 5,10-CH2-THF; it is the form, the main precursor of which is folinic acid.
Why folinic acid and not folic acid or methylfolate?
In case of the comparison to the first one, the situation is easy. Folinic acid needs a smaller amount of metabolic processes (smaller losses of the active substances) and it demonstrates higher assimilability in comparison to folic acid; additionally, the intake of the excessive amount of folic acid demonstrates unbeneficial health implications.
Differences when it comes to methylfolate are more subtle. Folinic acid will be a better choice for people oversensitive to products influencing methylation processes (mainly people with diagnosed histapenia or genetic disorders of MTHFR gene), as the form of methylfolate may deepen unbeneficial symptoms of diseases. It is also a better choice for people with diagnosed problems with methylcobalamin metabolism or its large deficiencies (the influence of methylfolate and folic acid on the prevention of intensive hair loss was compared in chemotherapy with methotrexate. The application of this drug results in intensive hair loss. Moreover, the influence on limiting this effect by the application of methylfolate and folinic acid was compared. For the second time it demonstrated a much better effect).
Sole folinic acid in the organism may be responsible for:
Neuroprotective and antidepressant effect – decreases the risk of neurologically related poisonings (mainly by heavy metals, dexamethasone and beta-amyloid). It synergistically influences the substances used in antidepressant therapies (drugs from the group of SSRI and TCA); decreases the time needed for their effective activity. Research also proved direct influence of the high level of folates in the plasma on preventing depression and positive influence on maintaining cognitive functions in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.
Antioxidant effect – demonstrates antioxidant activity on DNA oxidative damage (mainly be decreasing the level of homocysteine; 8-0HdG marker responsible for indicating this type of damages was decreased in the study after the intervention with folates).
Protective effect during pregnancy – in proper supplementation during pregnancy, folic acid is able to decrease the risk of neurological complications related to the damages of neural tube in the fetus to 0. Research also indicates the probability to decrease the risk of other defects of the baby, such as cleft lip or palate as well as hypertension of the mother.
Positively influences the circulatory system – it improves blood flow, especially in case of therapeutic application in certain cardiological diseases (e.g. coronary artery disease). Folate deficiency may also cause anemia (folates take part in the production of red cells).
To sum up, Seeking Health Folinic Acid is a good choice for people who want to supplement vitamin B9 more effectively than in case of simple folic acid, and who due to health reasons cannot use L-methylfolate. It will work great as an element of constant and interventional supplementation during pregnancy, depression episodes or problems with the circulatory system.
In case of the application during pregnancy, it is recommended to consult with a doctor before starting the supplementation. It is also not recommended to use very large doses of the product (research suggests that the problem may start from the doses of 4000 mcg; mainly when it comes to methylation processes in the organism).
Seeking Health is a brand which makes sure that the products it produces are characterized by high quality and purity, therefore the majority of their products is free from magnesium stearate, allergens and GMO.

BuyFolinic acid - 5-formyltetrahydrofolate, a biologically active form of folic acid. Its supplementation is recommended especially to people with methylation dysfunctions, as it is essential for the transformation of folic acid to the active folate. Taking into consideration the increasing tendency to disorders in this respect, folates are more and more often recommended as the basic, preferred forms of supplementation with folic acid.
Supplementation with these folates is especially recommended to women who are planning pregnancy or are pregnant. Folic acid in the biologically active form is responsible for regulating the formation of neural tube in the fetus and is conducive to its proper development.
In adults, folates are conducive to optimal methylation processes. It takes part in transforming homocysteine to methionine, thanks to which it demonstrates positive influence on the health of the cardiovascular system. In this way, it positively influences psyche, as the effectiveness of this process is conducive to the production of S-adenosyl methionine with considerable influence on maintaining proper emotional states.
Some sources also indicate the protective influence of folates on the development of cancers. This information, however, is not fully unambiguous. The present state of knowledge suggests that since the optimal supply of folates really decreases the risk of cancer development, its supplementation in excessively high doses may demonstrate the reverse effect.
Calcium (element chem. symbol Ca, atomic no. 20, the group of alkaline earth metals) is the basic building substance of bones and teeth, in which stored is 99% of the element, in the form of hydroxylapatite. When building bones and teeth, phosphorus is very important in the right proportion. It is a base-forming element and activator of many enzymes (ATPase) necessary to release the energy of ATP. It has a significant effect on blood clotting and regulates blood pressure and neuromuscular conductivity. Thanks to the reduced permeability of cell membranes, it soothes the symptoms of food allergies. Calcium is actively involved in the metabolism of iron interacts with vitamins A, C and D and phosphorus, magnesium. Natural source of calcium are animal products (dairy products, sardines, salmon, sprats eaten with bones) and plant products (nuts, soybeans, sunflower seeds). Absorption takes place in the small intestine (less in the colon), it has an effect on the level of lactose, insoluble fibre, organic acids, alkalinity (low pH). The best absorption have organic compounds (lactates, amino acid chelates etc.). Obstructing the absorption of calcium is caused by: phytic acid and oxalic acid as well as excess fat. Scientific studies have confirmed that the combination of calcium, magnesium, boron and vitamin D in dose 3 mg / 24h effectively prevent osteoporosis. Supplements on the market are both mono-preparation supplements (enriched with vitamin D3) and multi-component supplements, available at www.muscle-zone.pl.
Calcium deficiency disorders manifested in the construction of the bones (osteoporosis) and iron metabolism. The symptoms are: rickets, cramps and muscle tremor, osteoporosis.
Excess resulting from an overdose of calcium supplements containing vitamin D3 for children and adults overdose of calcium (hypercalcemia). Symptoms of hypercalcemia are: lack of appetite, vomiting and constipation.
The dosage administered in various publications are inconsistent: 800 - 1000 mg / 24 h (100 - 500 mg / 24h)
Salt (sodium chloride, or table salt), natural source of electrolytes (chlorine and potassium), regulating water and electrolyte and acid-base balance of the body, affecting the nervous system and blood pressure. Sodium is an essential element for the proper growth. The proper dose of salt prevents overheating of the body and solar stroke. It provides the proper functioning of muscles and nerves the body. Chlorine in combination with sodium, is involved in the digestive process and maintains acid-base balance in the body, as antitoxin removes toxic products of metabolism in the liver. Salt is a flavour component and preservative of many foods, nutritional supplements and mixtures of electrolytes, available at www.muscle-zone.pl
Dosage: no specific standards of consumption, used so as to provide sufficient amount of electrolytes to the body (sodium and chloride).
