HydroxoCobalamin 1mg HydroxoCobalamin 1mg

Source Naturals HydroxoCobalamin is a dietary supplement containing vitamin B12 in the form of one of its unmethylated analogues – hydroxocobalamin. This compound plays an important function in the proper functioning of the hematopoietic and nervous systems.

Vitamin B12 it is only biosynthesized by some microorganisms, therefore in case of mammals, including humans, it needs to be provided with food or in the form of dietary supplements. The main source of vitamin B12 is meat and its products and the highest amounts are in the liver and kidneys. Foods of plant origin do not contain this vitamin. Its absorption requires cooperation of three different transport proteins: Castle factor, haptocorrin  and transcobalamin II.

Hydroxocobalamin is a natural form of vitamin B12, which influences the synthesis of DNA, the activity of the nervous system and takes part in the metabolism of energy ingredients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats). Apart from this, it is required for the proper creation of erythrocytes and counteracts ischemia. It also plays a role of the cofactor of methionine synthase and is important in transformations of homocysteine to methionine.

Vitamin B12 deficiencies are most often caused by: lack of this ingredient in daily diet, i.e. during following a vegetarian diet, deficits or disorders in the activity of Castle factor, that is produced by cells of stomach mucosa and enables the absorption of vitamin B12, the state after gastrectomy (total or partial stomach resection, where the absorption of vitamin B12 takes place), in the disorders of intestines with malabsorption syndrome, during Crohn diseases, in case of excessive growth of transcobalamin II (transport protein), among people suffering from chronic inflammation of pancreas and in Addison-Biermer disease and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

The rate of vitamin B12 deficiency increases with age and most often appears in elderly people or those who avoid eating meat. Inhibited absorption of cobalamin from food or lack of this ingredient in daily diet are considered the main factors of this state. Deficiency of vitamin B12 is related to serious disorders in the digestive system and neurological and hematological disorders. Thanks to oral supplementation, it is possible to complement the level of vitamin B12 in blood serum and in turn, to reduce clinical symptoms caused by these deficiencies.

The main symptoms of deficiency
Deficiency of vitamin B12 most often causes the symptoms related to the neurological and hematopoietic systems (macrocytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia). The most frequent neurological symptoms are: peripheral neuropathy, drop of muscle tension, apathy, psychomotor retardation, paresthesia, convulsions and in extreme cases even disorders in mineralization and decline of brain tissue. Available sources also report mental symptoms, such as hyperactivity, mood disorders, depression problems with memory and concentration and psychosis. It may also lead to the decline of mucous membrane of the digestive system, especially in oral cavity, appetite disorders, weight loss or even anorexia.

Deficiency consequences
Deep deficiency of vitamin B12 may lead to impairing reactions catalyzed by methionine synthase and accumulation of N5-methyl-TH4-folate. This state is called the “folate trap”. Deficiency of TH4-folate takes place then, which is not regenerated, as a result of which the production of purines is limited.  Decreased amount of purines causes paralyzing the synthesis of nucleic acid, e.g. during the creation and maturation of red cells. Moreover, the concentration of homocysteine in cells rises and hyperhomocysteinemia is strongly related to the development of neurogenerative and cardiovascular diseases as well as cancers and birth defects.

Excessively large amount of homocysteine with the simultaneous lack of folates and vitamin B12 may lead to damages of vascular endothelium and demonstrates prooxidative effect, which increases the risk of developing atherosclerotic changes (intensification of inflammation, rebuilding of blood vessel walls, aggregation of platelets, oxidation of LDL cholesterol). Moreover, homocysteine takes part in the activation of V and XII coagulation factors, which is indicative of its pro-thrombotic effect. Such an activity of homocysteine may contribute to peripheral venous thrombosis, even in case of the lack of other ailments, that could cause such a state (hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes).

To sum up, Source Naturals HydroxoCobalamin is a dietary supplement, which is an ideal solution not only for people suffering from vitamin B12 disorders, most often resulting from the disorders of its absorption or limiting the intake of products of animal origin, but also for all people with methylation disorders, who are looking for an unmethylated alternative to a more common form of vitamin B12 – cyanocobalamin.

Hydroxocobalamin

Information

What is hydroxocobalamin?

Hydroxocobalamin is one of four available forms of vitamin B12. Its advantage over cyanocobalamin consists in the ease of conversion to biologically active forms. It is sometimes used as an antidote in cyanide poisonings, because of high affinity to its ions. This form of vitamin B12 may be an interesting alternative for people, who for various reasons cannot use methyl group donors and want a better-quality supplement than the popular cyanocobalamin.

Vitamin B12 is incredibly important for maintaining proper energy metabolism and high condition of the nervous system. Because of the influence on neurotransmitter synthesis, it contributes to the improvement of mood and psychological functions. It also takes part in DNA synthesis and creatine production by the possibility of increasing the concentration of SAMe. It also helps to maintain homocysteine level in lower values, as it supports its remethylation to methionine. It also plays an important role in blood-forming processes and regeneration of myelin sheaths in neurons.

Hydroxocobalamin in mono-supplements and complex vitamin preparations may be found in the offer of muscle-zone.pl.
