Activated B-12 Complex Activated B-12 Complex

Swanson Activated B-12 Complex is a dietary supplement containing vitamin B12 in easily assimilated forms of hydroxocobalamin and adenosylcobalamin found naturally in food. The product comes in convenient sublingual cherry-flavored capsules. Vitamin B12 is essential to normal activity of all cells in the human organism, especially of the nervous and digestive systems, as well as of the bone marrow.

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is a complex compound containing a cobalt atom in the center of a molecule. Depending on a substituent type, we can distinguish several forms of this vitamin, for example cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, and adenosylcobalamin. Each of them has different stability, activity, and assimilability by the organism. Choosing to supplement this essential vitamin, it is worth to know its types and the functions of its forms.

In the organism, hydroxocobalamin is easily converted into adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin – the bioactive forms of vitamin B12. Hydroxocobalamin is a better form than synthetic cyanocobalamin, as it is metabolized to active compounds more easily. It is a good solution in the case of the so-called overmethylation – the excess of methyl groups in the organism, which may be caused by methylcobalamin supplementation.

Adenosylcobalamin is vitamin B12 with 5'-deoxyadenosine as a substituent. This compound is called “a mitochondrial vitamin B12.” It is a bioactive form used by the organism immediately. Adenosylcobalamin also does not provide methyl groups.

Vitamin B12 is essential to proper hematopoiesis. By combining with so-called Castle’s factor, it forms a hematopoiesis growth factor, which participates in blood cell production. Moreover, vitamin B12 is involved in the production of erythrocytes in the bone marrow, and in the synthesis of genetic material in erythroblasts. Vitamin B12 deficiency leads to megaloblastic anemia, which manifests itself as an erythropoiesis disorder – megalocytes start to develop.

Vitamin B12 is essential to the normal activity of the nervous system. The vitamin is involved in building the myelin sheath and forming some of the neurotransmitters, including serotonin. Disorders of the serotonergic transmission cause mental illnesses, including depression and affective disorder. Vitamin B12 has a positive influence on mental acuity and supports cognitive functions.

Vitamin B12 prevents hyperhomocysteinemia. As a cofactor of methionine synthase, this vitamin enables the conversion of homocysteine into methionine. Disorders of homocysteine metabolism, which may be a consequence of vitamin B12 deficiency, may lead to the deregulation of methylation, damage of the vascular endothelium, and as a result to a significantly higher risk of thromboembolic diseases and atherosclerosis. During pregnancy, hyperhomocysteinemia may be a cause of serious complications.

Vitamin B12 affects the optimal energy metabolism. This vitamin, being involved in the metabolic conversion of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, regulates the metabolic rate. What is more, it participates in energy generation in the mitochondria, helping to diminish the feeling of tiredness and fatigue.

Vitamin B12 deficiency leads to many neurological, hematological, and gastroenterological disorders. There are many causes of vitamin B12 deficiency, for example, an improper diet, a plant-based diet, an advanced age, impairment of absorption, or the use of some drugs. Because of the lack of vegetable sources of vitamin B12, it has to be supplemented by people on a vegan or vegetarian diet.

To sum up, Swanson Activated B-12 Complex is a dietary supplement containing vitamin B12 in two safe bioactive forms. The product is particularly recommended for people on a vegan or vegetarian diet, in order to support their cognitive functions, memory, and concentration, as well as to decrease the homocysteine level and prevent lifestyle diseases.

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Information

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin, cyanocobalamin) is a vitamin soluble in liquids. Participates in the production of red blood cells and is essential in the absorption of iron by the body. It calming effect, a positive effect on concentration and memory. Intensifies its action in cooperation with folic acid (vitamin M). Usually occurs in animal products, fish and dairy products. It contains trace elements.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to pernicious anaemia, general and immunity weakness, inhibiting of growth and damage to the myelin sheath of nerves.

Adenosylcobalamin

Information

Adenosylcobalamin - a biologically active form of vitamin B12, which similarly to its methylated form does not need to undergo additional biochemical transformations in order to enter metabolic pathways in the human organism.

Apart from the best assimilability, adenosylcobalamin is distinguished from other forms of vitamin B12 by its high affinity for regeneration of nervous tissue. It is indicated that this form of cobalamin is engaged in the production of myelin sheaths with key meaning for proper neurotransmission. Apart from this, vitamin B12 is conducive to maintaining optimal functionality of the nervous system, being conducive to the synthesis of neurotransmitters.

Vitamin B12 is also an incredibly important regulator of methylation process, thanks to which its supplementation positively influences metabolism of the whole organism. It is a coenzyme in the conversion reactions of homocysteine to methionine as well as methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA. Because of the first reaction, proper supply of vitamin B12 is also conducive to maintaining high concentrations of S-adenosylmethionine, thanks to which it positively influences mental functions.

Moreover, vitamin B12 is a key regulatory factor, taking part in erythropoiesis, i.e. the process of forming red cells. Its improper supply may be the cause of the development of the so-called vitamin B12 deficiency anemia.

Supplementation with vitamin B12 should be considered especially be people on vegetable diets and those who take drugs from the group of proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) and metformin.

Hydroxocobalamin

Information

What is hydroxocobalamin?

Hydroxocobalamin is one of four available forms of vitamin B12. Its advantage over cyanocobalamin consists in the ease of conversion to biologically active forms. It is sometimes used as an antidote in cyanide poisonings, because of high affinity to its ions. This form of vitamin B12 may be an interesting alternative for people, who for various reasons cannot use methyl group donors and want a better-quality supplement than the popular cyanocobalamin.

Vitamin B12 is incredibly important for maintaining proper energy metabolism and high condition of the nervous system. Because of the influence on neurotransmitter synthesis, it contributes to the improvement of mood and psychological functions. It also takes part in DNA synthesis and creatine production by the possibility of increasing the concentration of SAMe. It also helps to maintain homocysteine level in lower values, as it supports its remethylation to methionine. It also plays an important role in blood-forming processes and regeneration of myelin sheaths in neurons.

Hydroxocobalamin in mono-supplements and complex vitamin preparations may be found in the offer of muscle-zone.pl.
