You have got questions about the product

  • Helps to restore normal pH of stomach contents
  • Prevents intestinal bacterial overgrowth
  • Supports protein breakdown and absorption
  • Supports vitamin and mineral absorption
  • Increases hydrochloric acid production
  • Eliminates gastric hypoacidity
  • Improves digestion
  • Contains a digestive enzyme

Source Naturals, Betaine HCL is a dietary supplement that optimises digestive processes.

Betaine hydrochloride contained in the product reduces pH in the stomach, stimulates hydrochloric acid synthesis, fights bacteria and activates pepsinogen. Thanks to the content of pepsin, it facilitates protein breakdown, which is beneficial for its digestion and absorption.

Moreover, the product is beneficial for the normal process of other stages of digestion, thanks to which it also helps to break down fats and carbohydrates, and plays an important role in the absorption of vitamins and minerals.

The product is recommended for people who consume large amounts of protein with their diet (mainly meat), that is above all sportspeople, as well as for those who avoided eating meat for a long time.

Moreover, the supplement is recommended in the case of digestion disorders, hypoacidity, lower gastric secretion, gastritis, and increased fermentation. As hydrochloric acid levels decrease with age, supplementation with this product can bring significant benefits among the elderly as well.

Betaine HCl (betaine hydrochloride) – a substance that supplies the organism with the compound corresponding to hydrochloric acid that occurs naturally in the organism, and helps to reduce normal pH in the stomach. The substance is also believed to be able to reduce homocysteine levels, improve liver functions and alleviate the symptoms of depression.

Pepsin – a proteolytic enzyme the breaks down peptide bonds and is responsible for breaking down large protein molecules into smaller polypeptide chains; the process takes place as a result of transforming pepsinogen under the influence of hydrochloric acid.

Role of hydrochloric acid
Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is synthesised in channels inside parietal cells of glands of the gastric mucous membrane. Its basic role is the activation of pepsinogen. Pepsinogen is found in gastric chief cells. It is an inactive enzyme that transforms into the biologically active pepsin when affected by hydrochloric acid and appropriate pH.

Moreover, hydrochloric acid has other properties; it has an antiseptic effect, it is responsible for iron and calcium absorption, inhibits bacterial overgrowth, and supports carbohydrate and fat digestion and absorption.

Consequences of insufficient HCl secretion
Low hydrochloric acid levels in the stomach lead to many problems. An HCl deficiency, apart from protein digestion disorders, also causes deteriorated absorption of minerals (mainly iron and calcium), as well as of vitamin B12 and folic acid.

Moreover, immunity against pathogens decreases, the immune system is weakened and you are more vulnerable to bacterial overgrowth. That is not all; adequately low pH of gastric juice is needed to activate pancreatic enzymes responsible for fat and calcium digestion, so any disorders in the stomach result in further disorders in other phases of digestion.

Symptoms of reduced HCl levels
The symptoms accompanying a decreased concentration of hydrochloric acid are visible after a meal in the form of:

- a feeling of discomfort after a meal, particularly one containing meat. It is caused above all by the fact that the organism has trouble with digesting a meal containing a lot of protein;

- heartburn, reflux; the cause is increased pressure in the abdomen that occurs as a result of stronger fermentation induced by incorrect carbohydrate digestion. It puts pressure on the lower oesophageal sphincter which opens and the acidic gastric contents go up to the oesophagus, resulting in pain and burning;

- burping, flatulence; just as in the case described above, the reason are undigested carbohydrates and excessive fermentation. Those symptoms increase after a meal and can maintain for an hour or two.

Moreover, there can be bad breath, low appetite, and residues of undigested food can appear in faeces.

To sum up, Betaine HCL is a dietary supplement recommended for those who suffer from the above-described symptoms as a result of a hydrochloric acid deficiency. The product should be also used by people on a protein-rich diet who consume a large amount of meat, as well as those in whom reduced hydrochloric acid secretion is observed.

It is good to observe your organism’s reaction after a meal, as it can give clear signals that it cannot manage its digestion. In that case, you can efficiently support the process and at the same time protect yourself from the undesirable consequences of digestion disorders by using this product.

Betaine (N, N, N-trimethylglycine, the TMG) is methyl glycine derivative participating in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine. It is present in food of plant origin and produced by the body in the liver or kidneys. The medicine uses it in the treatment of gastrointestinal and digestive disorders and hyperhomocysteinemia. In the supplements that increase the level of homocysteine used together with glycocyamine, indirectly influences the endogenous synthesis of creatine. There is no mono-preparation supplement containing betaine. Available in creatine stacks and the detoxicating supplements.

Chlorine (chemical element from the group of halogens) - in the natural form of gas it is poisonous and water-soluble (until recently used as a disinfectant in the water supply system, now replaced by fluorination). It is chemically active element. It is used in the form of sodium chloride (NaCl) and potassium (KCl). It participates in the process of digestion and maintains acid-base balance in the body, removes toxic products of metabolism in the liver (antitoxin). Natural source of chlorine for the body is salt and bladderwrack.
Chlorine deficiency can occur due to excessive sweating, vomiting, causing digestive tract problems. It also causes loss of hair and teeth.
Excess chlorine, for example. Drink excessive amounts of chlorinated water, destroys bacterial flora and vitamin E.
Dosage: Daily dose should not exceed 15 grams.

Pepsin - the proteolytic enzyme of gastric juice, which is produced of the pepsinogen, secreted gastric mucosa. This reaction occurs only in an acidic environment. Pepsin is responsible for the initial stage of digestion of proteins, and thus breaking them into smaller molecules - polypeptides and oligopeptides, which are degraded into separate amino acids during the further digestive process. Insufficient amount of enzyme leads to disruption of protein digestion process. Supplementation with pepsin not only leads to a proper amount of this component, but also is directly stimulating the endogenous conversion of pepsinogen to pepsin and therefore operates two separate pathways.
