OLIMP Luteina® bio-complex is a dietary supplement which supports healthy eyes and promotes normal vision. It comprises an effective dose of lutein, enriched with natural natural nutrients protecting your eyes.

The supplement is recommended to persons who spend many hours at TV or computers and suffer from eye fatigue or poor vision. It can be used to prevent eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

Lutein is a compound from a group of carotenoids. In the body, it is found primarily in eye structures – the retina and the central part of the lens known as the macula. It serves various functions – it nourishes the eyes, reacts with retinal proteins and acts as a natural filter which protects the eyes from dangerous effects of UV radiation. Blue light rays, which damage photoreceptors and have a negative impact on the retinal pigment epithelium, are especially dangerous to the eyes. Lutein easily absorbs visible blue light and that is why it gives your eyes so effective protection.

Like other carotenoids, lutein is a potent antioxidant. Scientists think that it may prevent the production of free radicals or reduce their levels in the retinal pigment epithelium and choroid. We should remember that excessive free radicals cause cell damage and apoptosis in the eyes. This leads to impaired vision and development of eye diseases.

Taurine is a non-proteinogenic, sulphur-containing amino acid. It is present primarily in the brain, skeletal muscles, heart and eye retina. It takes part in some biochemical reactions which are critical to normal vision. Furthermore, it protects the eyes from oxidative stress and damage caused by excessive free radicals. Scientists have proven that taurine deficiency causes degenerative changes in ganglion cells. As a result, it may increase the risk of cataract and retinal diseases and speed up the development of diabetic retinopathy. Taurine is also used to aid the treatment of primary angle closure glaucoma.

Vitamin C is one of the most popular and important vitamins in the body. It supports healthy connective tissue and is necessary for proper production of collagen, which is present e.g. in the cornea. The vitamin maintains also the integrity of blood vessels, including delicate capillaries localised in the retina. Adequate vitamin C intake may protect against the development of cataract and macular degeneration. Vitamin C is also a potent antioxidant. Oxidative stress and excessive free radicals pose a serious danger for sensitive eye structures and enriching your diet with natural antioxidants is the most effective form of protection.

Citrus bioflavonoids have synergistic effects with vitamin C and are a very good source of this vitamin. They are plant compounds. Like vitamin C, they take part in collagen synthesis and thus support a healthy cornea and blood vessels localised in the conjunctiva. Scientists assume that adding citrus bioflavonoids to a diet reduces the incidence of eye diseases and lowers the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy.

Zinc is one of the trace elements. It has many vital functions in the body, including those associated with normal vision and eye health. Large quantities of this element are found in the retina and choroid. Along with vitamin A, it helps produce melanin – a pigment of the iris, protecting the eyes from UV radiation. Specialists warn that zinc deficiency impairs vision and increases the risk of cataract. Correcting the deficiency protects against macular degeneration and may slow down the progression of the disease.

Selenium is the next element which is crucial for normal functioning of the body. It is a component of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase – two important enzymes creating an antioxidant system in the body. It helps protect the eye lens and prevens the development of cataract. Scientists have discovered that selenium drastically reduces glutathione levels in patients with advanced cataract. It is also suggested that selenium may have a role in the prevention of orbitopathy. This disease afflicts persons with hyperthyroidism and Graves' disease. One of the treatment strategies is to restore normal thyroid function and selenium is known for its positive effects on this gland.

To sum up, OLIMP Luteina® bio-complex gives you complete eye support. In contrary to popular eye drops which treat only symptoms, the supplement is targeted at eliminating the causes of eye problems. It promotes healthy vision and may also reduce the risk of developing many eye diseases.
