Banaba Extract 60mg Banaba Extract 60mg

Swanson Banaba Extract 2% Corosolic Acid is a dietary supplement which contains a highly concentrated banaba leaf extract, standardised to contain 2% corosolic acid.

The product helps regulate glucose-insulin balance, maintains normal blood sugar levels and prevents hypoglycaemia. It helps also control appetite and that is why it is an effective support for slimming treatments. What is more, it has strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

Banaba is a common name for Lagerstroemia speciosa. It is a small plant native to Southeast Asia with amazing, beautiful big flowers. Leaves are used primarily for medicinal purposes. In the Philippines, they are put on an equal footing with traditional antidiabetic drugs. They are also used to reduce body mass. In some parts of the world, roots and bark of the plant are used as a pharmacopeial raw material.

A number of bioactive compounds with an extremely beneficial impact on the body have been isolated from banaba leaves. The most important constituent is 2-alpha-Hydroxyursolic acid (corosolic acid). A major role is also served by unique ellagitannins, triterpenes, glycosides and flavones.

Maintenance of glucose-insulin balance
Banaba leaf extracts are used most frequently to normalise serum glucose concentrations. Antidiabetic properties of this plant have been confirmed in numerous clinical studies conducted both on animals and humans. Diabetics who received standardised banaba leaf extracts had a sigificant reduction in blood sugar levels. In many cases, it was posssible to restore their normal levels. Importantly, hypoglycaemia was not observed in anybody.

Bioactive compounds found in banaba leaves have several mechanisms of action. Firstly, they improve the transport of glucose and stimulate its uptake by cells. As a result, cells are saturated with glucose, thereby resulting in a decrease in its serum concentrations. Banaba leaves may also slow down the hydrolysis of starch and saccharose. Slower breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates protect against spikes in sugar after a meal and help stabilise blood sugar levels.

Banaba leaves are considered a plant insulin mimetic. It means that they can mimic the activity of this hormone. Like insulin, they inhibit gluconeogenesis (endogenous glucose production) and activate glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT-4).

Scientists indicate also that compounds from banaba leaves may function via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs). Since banaba leaves infuence this group of receptors, they are believed to increase cellular sensitivity to insulin and regulate glucose metabolism.

Weight loss support
Banaba leaves promote weight loss and that is why they are a perfect solution for persons who want to lose excess weight. Overweight correlates often with elevated blood sugar levels. Restoring its normal levels usually allows you to reduce safely body mass. What is more, stabilising blood sugar levels suppresses appetite, especially cravings for carbohydrates and sweets, thereby promoting weight loss.

Some studies suggest that pentagalloyl glucose (PGG) isolated from banaba leaves may inhibit adipogenesis, namely the transition of pre-adipocytes to mature fat cells. Contrary to previous hypotheses, this process does not end at about 3 years of age, but it lasts for the whole of your life. Because of that, it is important to control this process during weight loss.

Other health benefits
Banaba leaf extract shows other several signficant health-giving properties. It contains a large amount of antioxidants. It therefore captures and scavenges easily free radicals. Studies have confirmed that it neutralises peroxides and hydroxyl radicals more effectively than rutin (a potent antioxidant from a group of flavonoids). Furthermore, banaba leaves may increase directly levels of endogenous antioxidant enzymes, namely superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione S-transferase.

Banaba leaf extract reduces inflammation in the body. It blocks the activity of NF-kB which is responsible for inducing inflammation and inhibiting the realease of proinflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins.

Banaba leaf extract exerts an antimicrobial effect. Its acids (especially ellagic and gallic acid) are inhibitors of enzymes used by viruses to infect cells. Tannins and triterpenes inhibit in turn the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria (among others, E.coli, S. aureus and B. subtilis).
Banaba leaf extract influences beneficially liver function. It may prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease which is often caused by excessive fructose intake.

To sum up, Swanson Banaba Extract 2% Corosolic Acid is a product recommended especially to individuals who struggle with sugar imbalance, insulin resistance and metabolic disorders. It may be used to prevent type 2 diabetes and other diseases of affluence, in particular induced by chronic inflammation and redox imbalance.

Banaba leaf extract

Information

The Banaba leaf extract (Lagerstroemia indica), a plant used for centuries by the population of the Philippines to effectively regulate blood sugar levels. It has a slightly diuretic effect and helps to effectively reduce body fat. The raw material is a leaf Banaby containing acids (2a-hydroksyursolic [corsolic acid] and ellagic) and tannins. Corsolic acid is an activator of glucose (GLUT 4) operating insulin-like, facilitating the absorption of glucose and saturation of muscle cells.
In the sports supplementation Banaba leaf extract is used as an ingredient in regulating insulin metabolism, supporting the reduction of body fat and improve the absorption of food by muscle tissue.
