Garlic Oil by Swanson is a dietary supplement containing garlic oil characterised by a wide range of health-promoting properties. Every capsule provides 3 mg of garlic oil, which is an equivalent of 1,500 mg of normal garlic.

The product is useful in all kinds of bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections. It can also be used preventively in autumn and winter as a natural immunity-booster for the organism.

Garlic (Allium sativum) – a vegetable native to Central Asia; it is used both for cooking and in medicine. It contains many active components, for example: flavonoids, saponins, vitamins (B1, B2, C, A), salts of potassium, calcium, magnesium, chromium, and nickel, essential oils, and the most important compound with great biological activity – allicin. It is called a natural antibiotic thanks to its antifungal, antibacterial, and antiparasitic properties.

Support for the immune system
Allicin along with sulphur and essential oils found in garlic takes care of the normal functioning of the immune system. They support the production of T lymphocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils, which are responsible for defence mechanisms of the organism. Thanks to the right number of immune system cells, the organism can fight parasitic, bacterial, and viral infections, preventing pathogens and microorganisms from gaining advantage. That is why garlic is particularly recommended in autumn and winter as cold and flu prevention.

Garlic is also helpful in all kinds of upper respiratory tract infections. The active substances, that is essential oils, are highly efficient in preventing rhinitis. They prevent excessive mucus deposition in nasal cavities and on the lung mucous membrane.

Antibacterial and antiparasitic properties
Bacterial and parasitic infections are becoming more and more common among people in the whole world. Conventional treatment is based on the administration of antibiotics, to which some pathogens can be resistant. It turns out that garlic oil helps in all kinds of infections and is a brilliant weapon in the fight against microorganisms. It eliminates infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, that is Bacteroides, Prevotella, Fusobacterium or Actinomyces, which prove arduous to get rid of and can cause a number of complications in the respiratory, reproductive, or digestive systems.

Moreover, garlic oil is used in infections caused by Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, the bacteria that cause tuberculosis, and many other bacteria that induce respiratory tract and oral cavity infections. It also serves as an aid in pinworm infection and bacterial vaginosis treatment. It is used in Candida infections as well.

Health of the cardiovascular system
Garlic oil has the ability to regulate lipid management in the organism. It reduces total cholesterol levels, improving the proportion of LDL to HDL. It reduces the concentration of vLDL, that is very low-density lipoproteins, which are to a great extent responsible for the development of cardiovascular system diseases, such as atherosclerosis, cardiac arrests, or strokes.

The active components present in garlic help to reduce arterial blood pressure and have the ability to reduce platelet aggregation. Tests conducted on a group of adult men have proven that the level of thrombocyte clumping after the administration of the equivalent of 6 garlic cloves for 2 months decreased from 58% to 10%.

Antioxidant activity
Garlic has the ability to affect the balance between antioxidants and free radicals. Active substances help to eliminate the negative consequences of excess reactive oxygen species in the organism, whose activity can lead to a number of health problems, such as cancer, cardiovascular system diseases, or neurodegenerative diseases.

Oxidative stress caused by excess free radicals also contributes to the faster aging of the epidermis. The skin becomes drier and more prone to irritation. There occurs damage of collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis, which causes the development of wrinkles or discolourations. That is one of the reasons why garlic preparations are recommended for women who want to take care of a good condition of their skin in a complex way.

Garlic and the digestive system
Garlic has been known for thousands of years as a natural supporter of the digestive system. It has been noticed that it supports the digestive system through its cholagogic properties and the ability to stimulate the stomach to produce gastric juices. It improves the functioning of the bowel by preventing flatulence and constipations. It can also be of help in treating heartburn or food poisonings.

Analgesic properties
Garlic enjoys great popularity among women who suffer from painful periods caused by hormonal imbalance or reproductive system disorders. That is because the active substances contained in garlic oil reduce the activity of prostaglandin PG2, efficiently alleviating pain during a period.

To sum up, Garlic Oil by Swanson is a safe and natural dietary supplement that can be used in winter and autumn in order to prevent the development of the flu or a cold. Moreover, it is recommended in the case of an increased risk of developing cardiovascular and digestive system diseases.

Information

Garlic oil, derived from Allium sativum, is a raw material for many medicinal preparations. Owing to its health-promoting properties, it has been consumed since ancient times to protect against some diseases.

Allicin, which shows strong antibiotic properties, is one of the most important compounds in its composition. According to studies, it is much more potent than penicillin. Owing to that, garlic oil is used to prevent and treat respiratory diseases, e.g. cold, laryngitis, rhinitis or as an expectorant.

Adding garlic to a diet stimulates also the formation of hydrogen sulfide. This leads to the dilation of blood vessels and consequently improved blood flow. It has an antiatherosclerotic effect confirmed by studies – it reduces the incidence of this disease. The next advantage of garlic oil is anticoagulant properties which contribute to a decreased risk of red blood cell clumping.

The content of antioxidants helps remove free radicals from the body (detoxification) and delay ageing.  As a natural diuretic, it is recommended to individuals with urinary problems – it supports the function of this system. It will be effective in diabetics to stimulate thyroid function and thus lower blood sugar levels.

In addition, studies have shown that compounds present in garlic oil have anticarcinogenic properties and its regular intake may thus prevent the development of cancer.
