Niacin Time Release 500mg Niacin Time Release 500mg

Natrol Niacin TR is a dietary supplement that contains inositol nicotinate – niacin (vitamin B3) with a time-release and in a safe form – so called "no-flush niacin".

Niacin TR – an improved form of niacin
Nicotinic acid, applied in a dose of 1–6 grams daily, may lead to periodic dilation of blood vessels and skin reddening (so called flushing effect). Moreover, the use of niacin in a dose bigger than 0,5 gram daily may result in liver damage.

An alternative for the above mentioned situation is applying inositol nicotinate in the dietary supplement Natrol Niacin TR – a safe form of nicotinic acid, which, due to its combination with inositol, is absorbed gradually. It limits side effects linked with the supplementation of big doses of niacin.

Niacin (vitamin B3) – is also known as vitamin PP – it occurs in two different biologically active forms: nicotinic acid (nicotinate) and nicotinamide (the amide of nicotinic acid). The bioactivity of these compounds is connected with a nicotinamide ring of coenzymes NAD+ and NADP+, which take part in oxidation-reduction reactions. The vitamin is responsible for proper functioning of brain and central nervous system, the synthesis of sex hormones, cortisol, insulin and thyroxin (T4).

NAD+ and NADP+ – what are they?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a nucleotide that plays an important role in the process of cellular respiration. It is a basic transmitter of hydride electrons (H), and protons (H+) in a cell. As a result of electrons transportation by electron transmitter in an electron transport chain, an electrochemical gradient is created. It is then transformed by ATP synthase into cellular energy, which is stored in a form of ATP molecules.

Furthermore, it plays a role of a coenzyme in the oxidation-reduction reactions. It commonly occurs in the oxidized form. After combining with two electrons and a proton, it transforms into a reduced form – NADH.

NADP+ differs from NAD+, as NADP+ has a phosphate group. The reduced form (NADPH) is produced in a metabolic pathway (which is also known as pentose phosphate pathway) and then it is used in different reduction reactions, mainly in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol.

Niacin deficiency and its consequences
In the body system, niacin may be produced from tryptophan, but its amount is not sufficient. The lack of this vitamin in food results in pellagra, whose symptom is light-sensitive skin inflammation. With the progression of the disease, dementia (senility) and (sometimes) diarrhea may occur. Untreated pellagra leads to death.

The support for natural antioxidant mechanisms
By increasing the amount of NADPH in cells, niacin stimulates the activity of glutathione reductase (GR), which leads to the neutralization of harmful peroxides H2O2. It has been demonstrated that it is characterized by higher antioxidant potential than beta-tocopherol. It inhibits the processes of lipids peroxidation and protein damage in brain cells. Moreover, it increases the amount of superoxide dismutase and catalase as well as it inhibits glutathione oxidation, which leads to the higher concentration of the reduced form.

Therapeutic use under doctor's control
In the conventional medicine, niacin is used in the treatment of lipid metabolism disorders. It is a one of the most effective medicines which increases the amount of HDL fraction in serum while it also reduces the concentration of LDL, VLDL and apoprotein A. It plays an invaluable role in the regulation of cholesterol level and lipid profile as well as it is a possible protection for the circulatory system.

Vitamin B3 has an ability to expand blood vessels which results in blood pressure reduction. It may help in the treatment of high blood pressure. It stimulates adiponectin secretion, it has indirect anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic properties and it improves insulin sensitivity of cells. This all makes this substance an important element in the treatment of metabolic syndrome.

To sum it all up, Natrol Niacin TR is a dietary supplement with numerous pro-health properties. It supports energy transformations of proteins, fats and glucose as well as it improves the antioxidant potential of the whole body system. Under doctor's control, it may be used in the treatment of hyperlipaemia, hyperglycemia, atherosclerosis, diabetes type II and hypertension.

Inositol

Information

Inositol is an organic compound from the group of B vitamins soluble in fluids, present in the natural or synthetic form, synthesized in plants, such as brewer's yeast, beans, grapefruit, cabbage, sprout of wheat, melons and animal (liver). Along with choline is included in the lecithin. It affects the cell nutrition of the central nervous system (brain) by reducing the level of LDL (bad cholesterol), this makes it applicable in treatment of Alzheimer's disease and atherosclerosis. It has a calming effect. There has been a beneficial effect of inositol on the skin and hair reported.
