Biotin (vitamin H, B7) – a soluble vitamin of the B complex, it participates in many enzymatic reactions in the organism. As a component of biotin-dependent carboxylases, it participates in the migration of carboxyl groups from the hydrogen carbonate anion to other organic compounds. It plays an important role in maintaining a good condition of the skin, hair and nails. It also affects the maintenance of normal psychological functions and supports the functioning of the nervous system, participates in gluconeogenesis, and regulates energy metabolism.
Healthy look – skin and hair
Biotin helps to keep hair and nails healthy and maintain high skin quality, so it is no wonder that it gained such remarkable popularity. These days, taking care of appearance is a crucial part of life for many people. Vitamin H is an ingredient of many supplements intended to support health in women but it can also prove helpful for men who would like to keep their hair dense when they get old.
Undoubtedly, it is women who pay the most attention to the condition of skin and its derivatives. Healthy hair and high skin quality affect their overall looks and are generally considered the factors that influence a woman’s attractiveness. No wonder that a large part of the fair sex reach for biotin to stay beautiful for as long as possible.
Regulation of energy metabolism
The improvement of energy metabolism caused by biotin can cause an increase in the availability of useful energy, thanks to which the organism is able to function more efficiently. Biotin is an important player in the process of gluconeogenesis, fatty acid synthesis, and in the process of the citric acid cycle, also called Krebs cycle, responsible for energy production in aerobic transformations. Vitamin H also participates in the metabolism of macronutrients, especially fat and amino acids.
Optymalisation of lipid profile
Vitamin H deficiency can manifest itself through increased levels of total cholesterol, so if you notice the symptom in your blood tests, you should consider increasing the amount of biotin delivered with food. It is also possible that biotin helps to reduce the level of free triglycerides and the vLDL cholesterol fraction thanks to the mechanism of increasing AMPK in the liver.
Potential effect on blood sugar cencentration
Scientists suggest that biotin can have a beneficial effect on glycaemic control. The main factor indicating that is the reduction of glucokinase in the case of biotin deficiency. Glucokinase is a key enzyme that participates in glucose disposal. Its activity consists in catalysing the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose 6-phosphate which cannot leave a cell freely and does not, therefore, increase blood sugar levels. Considering the above, biotin can be an agent that potentially reduces the risk of diabetes; however, this effect requires more tests to be confirmed.
Factors reucing biotin levels in the organism
The amount of biotin in diet should be controlled particularly by people who like to eat raw eggs, especially egg white. Egg white is a rich source of avidin, an antinutrient that blocks the absorption of vitamin H.
Biotin can be produced by intestinal bacteria but the process can prove insufficient in people who often use antibiotics and eat food that is not beneficial for maintaining normal intestinal microflora. Potentially, deficiencies can also be observed in people who drink alcohol often.
Reduced biotin concentration has also been observed in the organisms of people whose epilepsy is treated pharmacologically, particularly with valproic acids, which can cause hair loss. The effect can be efficiently reduced by adding biotin to the therapy. To a lesser degree, vitamin B7 levels can also decrease in elderly people and sportspeople who train heavily.
Natrol Biotin is recommended especially for people with a diagnose deficiency, and for those who complain of an unsatisfactory condition of hair, skin and nails. It can also be used to improve the functioning of the nervous system and psychological functions, as well as an agent optimising the lipid profile in the blood.
It is not recommended to use the supplement with meals containing raw egg, because it contains a protein called avidin, which binds biotin, which hinders its absorption by the body. Exposure to egg to a heat treatment solves the problem, because it causes disintegration of avidin.

Biotin (vitamin H, co-enzyme R) is in a group of B vitamins, due to the presence of sulphur compounds it is involved in the synthesis of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Also synthesized in the intestines. It enhances the production of hormones and regulates cholesterol levels. It reduces muscle pain. It prevents hair loss and graying of hair. It soothes the skin inflammations. No toxic effects. Often combined with other B group vitamins and vitamin A. The natural sources of biotin are: whole grain bread, yeast, eggs (yolk), milk, brown rice and cheese.

Calcium (element chem. symbol Ca, atomic no. 20, the group of alkaline earth metals) is the basic building substance of bones and teeth, in which stored is 99% of the element, in the form of hydroxylapatite. When building bones and teeth, phosphorus is very important in the right proportion. It is a base-forming element and activator of many enzymes (ATPase) necessary to release the energy of ATP. It has a significant effect on blood clotting and regulates blood pressure and neuromuscular conductivity. Thanks to the reduced permeability of cell membranes, it soothes the symptoms of food allergies. Calcium is actively involved in the metabolism of iron interacts with vitamins A, C and D and phosphorus, magnesium. Natural source of calcium are animal products (dairy products, sardines, salmon, sprats eaten with bones) and plant products (nuts, soybeans, sunflower seeds). Absorption takes place in the small intestine (less in the colon), it has an effect on the level of lactose, insoluble fibre, organic acids, alkalinity (low pH). The best absorption have organic compounds (lactates, amino acid chelates etc.). Obstructing the absorption of calcium is caused by: phytic acid and oxalic acid as well as excess fat. Scientific studies have confirmed that the combination of calcium, magnesium, boron and vitamin D in dose 3 mg / 24h effectively prevent osteoporosis. Supplements on the market are both mono-preparation supplements (enriched with vitamin D3) and multi-component supplements, available at www.muscle-zone.pl.
Calcium deficiency disorders manifested in the construction of the bones (osteoporosis) and iron metabolism. The symptoms are: rickets, cramps and muscle tremor, osteoporosis.
Excess resulting from an overdose of calcium supplements containing vitamin D3 for children and adults overdose of calcium (hypercalcemia). Symptoms of hypercalcemia are: lack of appetite, vomiting and constipation.
The dosage administered in various publications are inconsistent: 800 - 1000 mg / 24 h (100 - 500 mg / 24h)
