Seeking Health Optimal Vitamin D Drops is a dietary supplement containing vitamin D3 in the form of cholecalciferol obtained from sheep wool. One drop of the preparation provides 2000 IU (50 mcg) of vitamin D3. Environmentally-friendly glass packaging contains 40 ml of the product, which constitutes 900 drops. The dosing of the preparation by means of the dropper allows easy and individually adjusted dosing. Vitamin D3 is soluble in fats. Olive oil was used as a base of the preparation, which increases its assimilability.

Vitamin D3 is a chemical substance of steroid structure. It is called the “sunshine vitamin”. Its precursor is 7-dehydrocholesterol (provitamin D3) present in epidermis and dermis. Under the influence of UV-B radiation, dehydrocholesterol is transformed to vitamin D3, which in turn undergoes metabolic changes in the liver and kidneys, leading to the development of active forms – calcidiol (25(OH)D3), which is a marker of vitamin D3 level in the organism and calcitriol (1,25(OH)D3). The process of calcitriol synthesis is regulated by the concentration of calcitriol and the concentration of calcium and phosphates with the participation of parathormone.

Mechanism of vitamin D3 activity
Calcitriol, as an active form of vitamin D3, influences target cells by nuclear receptor VDR (vitamin D receptor). VDR receptors are deployed in the majority of cells of the human organism, i.a. in intestinal epithelium, nerve channels, heart, brain, pancreas beta cells. By means of these receptors, calcitriol influences the expression of more than 200 genes. There is also an extragenic mechanism of the activity of calcitriol, as it demonstrates affinity to membrane receptors. In this way it may activate kinases, proteases and induce the synthesis of prostaglandins.

Multidirectional activity of vitamin D
Vitamin D demonstrates a range of pro-health properties. The most important and so far the best-known function of this vitamin is regulation of calcium-phosphorus-magnesium balance, which allows to ensure proper bone mineralization and the absorption of calcium. By means of VDR receptors, it stimulates the activity of osteoblasts, which prevents the development of osteoporosis.

Due to the expression of VDR in lymphocytes T and B and neutrophils, vitamin D plays a role in the regulation of the immune response, inducing extinguishing of inflammatory reactions. It also decreases the risk of certain autoimmune diseases, i.a. multiple sclerosis.

Moreover, vitamin D improves sensitivity of tissues to insulin, by stimulating the expression of insulin receptors, which justifies the appropriateness of supplementation in case of diabetes type 1 and 2.

Neuro- and cardioprotective effects were also proven. Vitamin D increases the level of intracellular glutathione, thanks to which it protects cells from neurotoxic effects of oxidation. It is also necessary for the proper functioning of the circulatory system. The relation between the occurrence of hypertension and low concentration of calcitriol in the plasma was also proven. Proper supply of vitamin D decreases the risk of myocardial infraction and congestive heart failure.

It also plays an important role in rheumatoid diseases. It decreases inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, caused by i.a. the increased synthesis of tumor necrosis factor and has protective effect on cartilage cells and bone cells. There are some clinical studies which indicate positive influence of vitamin D in the therapy of psoriasis.

Common deficiency of vitamin D
Currently we are extremely prone to vitamin D deficiency due to our geographic location and lifestyle – excessively low exposure to sunlight, using UV-B filters, environmental pollution, bad diet. Food sources of vitamin D are very limited all over the World. Therefore, it is important o implement supplementation. Insufficient supply of vitamin D causes bone changes – it causes rickets in children, osteomalacia in women and osteoporosis in elderly people. It is a risk factor of developing certain autoimmune diseases and cancers, may result in secondary hyperparathyroidism. Hypovitaminosis also increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, there are some reports on the correlation of vitamin D deficiency and the occurrence of psychological disorders, i.e. depression, neurosis and bipolar disorders.

To sum up, Seeking Health Optimal Vitamin D Drops, is a dietary supplement which should be purchased by every person, especially in the fall-winter season. It is also appropriate for children. It supports general state of health, maintaining healthy bones and the immune system. Prophylactic complementation of vitamin D3 deficiencies is extremely important due to its pleiotropic activity in the organism and commonly appearing diseases.
