Iodine – is a mineral required for normal production of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). This element sensitises the pituary gland to thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH, thyroliberin) and consequently stimulates thyrotropin secretion. It is a hormone produced by the pituary gland which stimulates the thyroid into producing T3 and T4. What is more, iodine is critical to the conversion of T3 into T4 which is the most active compound.
