Turkesterone as a natural anabolic. Does it have side effects?

Big and strong muscles without a syringe or side effects is the dream of many amateur athletes. Turkesterone is a natural anabolic - can it make this dream come true?

Ever since the sports nutrition supplement market began to develop, there have always been promoted some "natural anabolics" and testosterone boosters that were supposed to bring fabulous results without any risks. Some actually showed mild effectiveness, but in most cases the marketing boasts ended there. Things are a bit different with turkesterone. As a representative of substances that are steroids in plants and insects, it also shows anabolic effects in mammals. Let's find out what its actual effectiveness is.

What is turkesterone?

Turkesterone ( turkesterone) is one of the plant ecdysteroids. Its abundant source is the Ajuga turkestanica plant, which is native to central Asia, with its main habitat being the Surchondary Vilayet in Uzbekistan. It is increasingly being used in the manufacture of dietary supplements for athletes with the promise of intensifying anabolic processes.

How does turkesterone work? Effects of ecdysteroids on muscles

Ecdysteroids, and therefore turkesterone, undoubtedly have anabolic effects, which have been repeatedly confirmed. The effectiveness is so high that scientists affiliated with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) are keeping an eye on them.

The hypertrophic effect of ecdysteroids on skeletal muscle is due to their interaction with the estrogen receptor ERβ, while it does not activate androgen receptors. This particular subtype of estrogen receptors induces an increase in protein synthesis, which manifests itself, among other things, in a faster increase in muscle mass when accompanied by an appropriate training stimulus and a caloric surplus in the diet.

A study analyzing the effects of ecdysteroids on rat muscle gains tested its effectiveness against several popular anabolics: Dianabol (metandienone), Trenbolox (estradienedione) and SARM S1. Using the same doses of all substances, it was turkesterone that had the strongest hypertrophic effect!

Is turkesterone a steroid?

It is not a steroid like testosterone or methanabol. Turkesterone, like other ecdysteroids, although it has a steroidal structure and chemically resembles human androgens, but it does not exhibit androgenic action, so it is much safer and does not have the side effects that are characteristic of anabolic-androgenic steroids. Namely, you don't have to worry about a decrease in testosterone production or the need to do PCT(post cycle therapy) after turkesterone supplementation.

In the context of the permissibility of the use of turkesterone by professional athletes, there shouldn't be any problems yet at this point, but scientists recommend placing ecdysteroids on the list of banned substances in sports, specifically in the section "S1.2 Other Anabolic Agents." Although the list of banned substances for 2023 does not yet include ecdysteroids, it is very likely that it will in the coming years.

Are there any side effects at all?

They are not common, but occasionally there may be nausea or stomach discomfort, sometimes headaches. When they occur, fortunately, it is enough to stop taking the ecdysterone supplement, and everything should return to normal very quickly. Due to the lack of steroid-specific effects, supplementation can be discontinued without reproach, as there is no need for PCT (post-cycle therapy).

Summary

Turkesterone seems to be one of the best choices when you want to include a safe anabolic in your supplementation, and experiments with creatine are over. It is a safer alternative to anabolic-androgenic steroids, prohormones and SARMs.
