Bitter Melon by the company Hepatica is a dietary supplement containing in its composition extracts from bitter melon, standardized for the content of min. 7% of bitterness and 0.5% of charantin in the dose of 75 mg in one capsule.

Bitter melon – also known as Momordica charantia, bitter gourd, bitter squash, or balsam-pear is a plant cultivated on the terrains of Asia and Africa for ages used in traditional Chinese medicine among others to treat the ailments of the digestive tract, such as constipations or indigestion. The fruit of bitter melon is rich in calcium, potassium, iron, copper and phosphorus and also in numerous active substances, triterpenes, steroid glycosides and phytosterols.

Thanks to its properties normalizing glucose parameters in blood, the product is recommended primarily to all diabetics, people suffering from insulin-resistance and metabolic diseases as well as to sportsmen. Increasing glycogen supplies in muscles and liver is reflected in better, longer and more effective training sessions.

Glycemic balance regulation
Research proved that active substances contained in Momordica charantia demonstrate positive influence on normalizing the concentration of glucose, insulin and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in blood. All of this thanks to the activation of AMPK enzyme, which is responsible for the important processes of the transport of glucose and transforming it into energy the whole organism needs.

Bitter melon extract helps to stabilize glucose balance by increasing tissue sensitivity to the hormone controlling sugar metabolism in blood – insulin. Increasing the amount of beta cells of the pancreas improves the absorption and utilization of glucose from blood which turns out to be beneficial for people suffering from insulin-resistance, diabetes type 2 or PCOS.

Therefore, bitter melon extract has a similar effect to the popular drug used in the treatment of diseases related to excessively high level of glucose and insulin in blood – metformin, which contrary to the natural supplement may cause serious side-effects, such as deep deficits of magnesium and vitamin B12 or lowering testosterone level.

Scientists claim that bitter melon is rich in polypeptide P. Therefore it has insulin-like properties, as a result of which it may become a perfect and natural substitute for insulin provided from outside in case of diabetes type I (insulin-dependent).

Benefits for sportsmen
Stimulating AMPK enzyme contributes to the increased storage of glycogen both in the liver and in muscles, lowering at the same time the level of glucose circulating in the bloodstream. Therefore, the supplementation with bitter melon may influence the improvement of endurance, efficiency and growth of muscle mass, which is directly reflected in sports results.

Antiviral effect
Regular supplementation with the extract from bitter melon results in strengthening immunity to vital infections. The secretion and activity of NK cells – Natural Killers is increased as well as interferon synthesis (INF) – a protein released by the organism in response to the presence of pathogens, microbes, bacteria and viruses.

The most recent studies provide promising results in the treatment of people with HIV. Bitter melon extract supports the immune system of sick people, increasing the amount of lymphocytes and neutrophils, supporting the effect of drugs.

Influence on lipid profile
Bitter melon is successfully used to lower the risk of developing metabolic diseases. It has a positive influence on lipid profile – it lowers the level of triglycerides and very low-density lipoproteins vLDL, the high level of which contributes to developing diseases of the cardiovascular system, e.g. heart attack or atherosclerosis

Summing up, Bitter Melon by the company Hepatica is an ideal product with the fight with glucose-insulin disorders. Thanks to its properties, it may be successfully used in the prophylaxis of diabetes, metabolic diseases and also by sportsmen who want to increase the efficiency of training sessions.
