Homocystex Plus by Seeking Health is a dietary supplement containing in its composition active forms of vitamin B2 (25 mg), B6 (15 mg), B12 (1000 mcg), folate (800 mcg) and betaine TMG (700 mg), which support natural methylation processes in the organism and support proper metabolism of homocysteine.

The product contains bioavailable forms of vitamins from the group B and betaine TMG, which condition correct transformations related to the synthesis of methionine from homocysteine. The supplement is recommended to people characterized by excessively high concentration of homocysteine in blood, as a result of improper diet or mutation of MTHFR gene.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is an organic chemical compound created by combining flavin and ribitol soluble in water. It is a precursor of important enzymes – FMN (flavin mononucleotide) and FAD (flavin adenine dinucleotide). It conditions proper functioning of the peripheral and central nervous system by taking part in the synthesis of the most important neurotransmitters in the brain: serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid and dopamine.

Riboflavin regulates the immune system, taking part in the production of antibodies produced during the immune response of the hormonal type. Along with vitamin A, it is responsible for a good state of mucous membranes, skin, mucosa of the digestive tract, epithelium of blood vessels and it also strongly affects good condition of eye ball and vision.

Vitamin B2 deficiency is related to increased changes of inflammations of mucous membrane of oral cavity and tongue, i.e. mouth ulcers, warts, oral candidiasis, angular cheilitis, breaking lips and skin dryness and also problems with hair loss, vagina infections in women, eye damages, problems with concentration and sleeplessness.

Vitamin B6 – a group of 6 chemical compounds, pyridoxine derivatives. They are pyridoxine, pyridoxal, pyridoxamine and their phosphate esters. It is stored mainly in muscles and liver in biologically active form of pyridoxal phosphate. Similarly to other B-group vitamins, it is soluble in water and takes part in important biochemical reactions in the human organism.

Vitamin B6 is responsible for proper processes of glycogenesis (the synthesis of glucose to glycogen chain for stores) and glycogenesis (the process of the breakdown of glycogen to glucose-1-phospate, taking place in muscles and liver), which are very important transformations, especially for sportsmen and physically active people. It has positive influence on the cardiovascular system – it lowers blood pressure, regulates heart work, decreases the risk of developing atherosclerosis and heart attack. It is important in the proper functioning of the nervous system, as it takes part in the synthesis of niacin from tryptophan and takes part in the production of neurotransmitters, i.e. adrenaline and serotonin.

Moreover, it takes part in transforming processes of fatty acids, especially the transformation of linoleic acid C18 to arachidonic acid C20, which is essential for the synthesis of prostaglandins – hormones responsible for regulating physiological processes.

Folate – is a compound, especially essential for pregnant women to the proper development of the fetus. Its active form is known in the form of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (MTHF) and it is metabolized and transformed in the liver.

One of the most important functions of folate is taking part in the synthesis of nucleic acids, in which genetic DNA materials are created. Along with cobalamin, they take active part in blood-forming processes – they build erythrocytes and counteract developing anemia.

Moreover, folate takes part in the production of a very important neurotransmitter – serotonin, the proper concentration of which conditions well-being, counteracts depression and disorders in the functioning of the nervous system and helps to deal with stress.

Supplementation with the active form of folate helps in the proper functioning of the digestive system – it stimulates gastric acid secretion, supports the functions of liver, bowel and stomach. Proper concentration of folate in blood prevents developing colorectal cancer and stomach ulcers.

Vitamin B12 is an organic chemical compound soluble in water, containing central atom in the form of cobalt. The most bioavailable forms for the organism is methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, which may be easily assimilated by the organism, without any need of complicated transformations.

High amounts of vitamin B12 are contained in food of animal origin, therefore cobalamin supplementation is essential for vegans and vegetarians. It is also called the “red vitamin”, as it takes active part in the production of red cells. It regulates the work of the nervous system, takes part in the production of serotonin – a very important neurotransmitter in case of the fight with depression, irritation and anxiety disorders.

Proper concentration of cobalamin in blood helps to maintain mental ability, supports concentration and improves memory. It also facilitates the production of melatonin, a hormone with antagonist effect on cortisol, the proper concentration of which in the evening allows to fall in a deep and efficient sleep, ensuring regeneration of the whole organism. It decreases the feeling of fatigue and adds energy by its participation in the processes of transforming proteins, carbohydrates and fats. By the same token, it ensures proper energy metabolism of the whole organism.

TMG – trimethylglycine, also called betaine anhydrous, a derivative of glycine amino acid. It is used in the organism as a donor for methyl groups during the processes of transforming methionine to homocysteine, taking the form of dimethylglycine. It supports digestion, stimulating the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, positively influences bowel function, increases the processes of fat burning, but primarily it is used to decrease excessively high homocysteine level.

Homocysteine and methylation
Methylation is a process conditioning proper cell divisions and repairing damaged DNA cells. It provides the organism with methyl groups taking part among others in the synthesis of choline, carnitine, coenzyme Q10, myelin sheath protein, metabolism of neurotransmitters, i.e. serotonin or dopamine.

Improper methylation is most often caused by the deficiency of methyl groups of folic acids, vitamin B12 and B6, leading to impairing the processes related to detoxification of the organism, damaging DNA structure and cell aging. DNA mutations lead to the risk of creating, among others, cancer cells and neurodegenerative diseases.

Vitamin B12, folic acid and vitamin B6 play a very important role in the processes of the synthesis of methionine to homocysteine and deficits of these substances lead to impairing methylation functions in the organism, which may result in hyperhomocysteinemia – excessively high concentration of homocysteine in the plasma.

Consequences of increased homocysteine level
Proper concentration of homocysteine in blood should not exceed 10 umol/l. Higher values are called hyperhomocysteinemia.

Excessively high concentration of homocysteine leads to the creation of S-adenosylhomocysteine, a compound which lowers the number of cells of endothelium securing arterial vessels from the creation of atherosclerotic plaques. This phenomenon also causes the increase of blood pressure and the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Hyperhomocysteinemia and methylation problems lead to the disorders in the development of the fetus and problems with becoming pregnant as well as lower concentration of neurotransmitters, i.e. serotonin and dopamine, leading to the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases and cancers.

Gene MTHFR
An increasingly common phenomenon is impairing MTHFR gene, which makes it impossible to properly utilize folic acid and vitamin B12 – the organism cannot transform these substances to the proper, bioavailable form, which results in the increased amount of toxins in the organism, DNA damage and increased risk of developing civilization diseases.

People who have a faulty MTHFR gene should only take supplements containing active and methylated forms of B-group vitamins, which condition proper methylation processes in the organism and become entirely utilized.

Summing up, Homocystex Plus is a product containing the most bioavailable forms of B-group vitamins, helping in proper processes of methylation and in correct metabolism of homocysteine. An additive of TMG intensifies the effectiveness of the supplement, which becomes an ideal product to fight with hyperhomocysteinemia.
