Apollo's Hegemony Melatonin is a dietary supplement containing melatonin. The preparation is designed to help facilitate falling asleep and alleviate the sensation of sudden time zone change (jet-lag) syndrome.

Melatonin is a neurohormone secreted mainly in the central nervous system by the pineal gland, but not only - but the production of this compound in smaller amounts also occurs in lymphocytes and the gastrointestinal tract. Melatonin is produced with the use of the specific amino acid - tryptophan.

Melatonin plays an important role in the regulation of the biological circadian rhythm. Daily secretion of this neurohormone has its specific rhythm - during the day low melatonin concentrations are observed. At the same time at the night, the highest concentration of this hormone can be found, which is a desirable phenomenon. The release of melatonin is related to the exposure of the body to light. In addition to the diurnal rhythm, a seasonal rhythm of melatonin secretion is also observed, caused by the change of the light exposure depending on the current season of the year.

Melatonin shortens the time needed to fall asleep and increases the length of sleep. Moreover, a number of scientific studies indicate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this neurohormone.

Melatonin has a bidirectional mechanism of action. First, it exhibits direct sleep-inducing effects, and the postulated mechanism of this activity is an interaction with the GABAergic system. Second, via the melatonin receptors MT1 and MT2, melatonin exhibits chronobiotic activity - regulating the diurnal rhythm.

In conclusion, Apollo's Hegemony Melatonin is a supplement recommended primarily for falling asleep faster, supporting overall sleep quality, and alleviating symptoms of the jet-lag syndrome.
