Liposol Curcumin C3 complex® is a dietary supplement that includes a patented, highly bioavailable turmeric rhizome extract – a plant with powerful healing potential.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant belonging to the ginger family, grown mainly in Southeast Asia. Its rhizomes are widely used as a spice. They dye the food into a characteristic yellow color and give it a slightly sharp, spicy taste. What is more, they are a valuable medicinal raw material – they contain pharmacologically active polyphenolic compounds called curcuminoids. The most active in this group is the most widely known curcumin, although demethoxycurcumin and bisdemetoxycurcumin are characterized by equally high biological activity.
Antioxidant potential
Curcuminoids exert a strong antioxidant effect. They neutralize reactive oxygen species and contribute to an increase in the concentration of intracellular glutathione, which is one of the key antioxidant enzymes in the body. Note that excess free radicals and the subsequent chronic oxidative stress may contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases, some neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.
Anti-inflammatory properties
Another advantage of turmeric extract is its anti-inflammatory potential. Curcumin was shown to suppress IkB kinase activity, which translates into reduced activation of the NF-kB transcription factor. What is more, turmeric may reduce the expression of proteins involved in the inflammatory process (including COX-2 and IL-8). Turmeric extracts are successfully used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases, including arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and rheumatism.
