Cat's Claw Extract Cat's Claw Extract

Now Foods Cat’s Claw Extract is a dietary supplement containing a strongly concentrated extract of a Peruvian plant commonly called Cat’s Claw. The high content of oxindole alkaloids translates into the preparation’s fantastic efficacy in terms of increasing the organism’s immunity, reducing chronic inflammations, and maintaining the right condition of bones and joints.

The product is recommended as general preventive healthcare. It proves fantastic in the seasons of deteriorated immunity. It brings great relief in the case of rheumatic diseases. It can be used in the treatment of diseases induced by chronic inflammations.

Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa, vilcacora) is a tree-like liana native to the Amazon rainforests. Native Americans have been using its bark for medicinal purposes for ages. Tests on vilcacora’s phytochemical composition have allowed to isolate more than 50 substances with documented pharmacological activity.

Top-quality supplements are standardised to the content of oxindole alkaloids, responsible for the antioxidant and immunostimulatory properties of the plant. Other substances that play a big role are triterpenes, plant steroids (including the anti-inflammatory β-sitosterol), quinic acid glycosides characterised by remarkable antiviral activity, and procyanidins.

Immunostimulatory effect
Vilcacora strengthens the organism and activates its natural defence mechanisms. It affects a number of immune system components responsible for cell-mediated and non-specific immunity. It modulates immunobiochemical pathways induced by interferon-gamma.

Oxindole alkaloids found in its bark affect vascular endothelial cells, stimulating them to produce the factors that stimulate lymphocyte B and T proliferation. Moreover, they stimulate phagocyte activity, which results in the absorption of harmful microorganisms and pathologically overgrown cells that can constitute the beginning of cancer.

The activity of vilcacora bark extracts stimulates the production of interleukin-1 (IL-1) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Both cytokines, produced by macrophages, initiate a number of immune defence mechanisms in the organism.

Vilcacora helps to increase granulocyte reserves produced in bone marrow. Granulocytes perform one of the most important roles when it comes to the organism’s defence. They participate in the process of phagocytosis and cytokine production.

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
Many compounds found in Uncaria tomentosa bark exhibit the ability to swipe excess free radicals from the organism and reduce chronic inflammations. The [articularly active substances in that aspect are sterol components and quinic acid glycosides.

The anti-inflammatory properties of vilcacora stem from reduced TNF-α production. Excessive activity of the cytokine is correlated with many diseases, including cancer. What is more, vilcacora inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) – the main mediator of inflammatory state.

The strength of vilcacora bark extracts is comparable with that of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or naproxen. There are no side effects connected with them.

Effect on bones and joints
The anti-inflammatory properties of vilcacora bark extracts are very successfully used in treating bone and joint inflammations. The compounds found in the bark affect a number of mechanisms responsible for the destruction of joint cartilage.

Thanks to its ability to inhibit iNOS gene expression, reduce nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, and inhibit the activation of two protein complexes – TNF-alpha and NF-kB, vilcacora reduces inflammations in joints and slows down the process of joint cartilage deterioration.

Tests conducted on people who suffered from degenerative changes in joints in the knee showed that regular four-week supplementation with vilcacora extracts managed to alleviate pain, increase mobility of the deteriorating joints, reduce swelling, and improve the overall condition of the subjects. At the same time, there were no changes observed in the liver and haematological parameters, which proves that there are no adverse reactions connected with the use of vilcacora.

Other healthy properties
Vilcacora plays an important role in atherosclerosis prevention. It has antiplatelet and anticoagulant properties. It prevents the abnormal aggregation of platelets and the formation of life-threatening clots.

Vilcacora improves digestion and has a beneficial effect on the digestive system. It prevents gastrointestinal dysfunctions, protects the mucosa in the gastrointestinal tract, improves the motility of the intestines and the bile tract.

To sum up, Cat’s Claw Extract is a versatile supplement that supports the organism in many aspects. Its anti-inflammatory and immunostimulatory properties make it possible to use it for strengthening the organism and improving immunity. The natural origin of the components used in the supplement guarantees safety of use.

Cat's Claw (Uncaria Tomentos)

Information

Cat's Claw (Uncaria Tomentos) is a herb mainly known for its antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, occurring naturally in the tropical forests of South and Central America. For therapeutic purposes, the bark and root of the plant are used.

Cat’s Claw helps to minimize the symptoms of arthritis (it reduces pain symptoms), demonstrates anticancer effect, optimizes blood pressure (effective in case of hypertension, antithrombotic activity), strengthens the immune system (helpful in case of HIV infection, effective in fighting herpes) and it is also effective in fighting a wide range of digestive disorders (irritable bowel syndrome, stomach and duodenum ulcers, bowel inflammation).

Cat’s Claw may also demonstrate effectiveness in case of borreliosis - it was proven in one of the studies that combining Cat’s Claw and Otoba parvifolia contributed to the destruction of Borrelia spirochetes both in relation to active and inactive forms.
