Protein multicomplexes are advanced protein supplements that contain four or more protein fractions. Such a combination seems to be optimal – it guarantees a broad amino acid profile and provides a many-hours’ access to amino acids, resulting from a different kinetics of absorption of individual protein fractions. Protein multi-complexes can be boldly called universal supplements, which are suitable for use at any time of the day; they work just as well after a workout as before a bedtime.
Protein multi-complexes usually contain milk-derived proteins, i.e. an isolate, concentrate or whey hydrolyzate, and casein, as well as proteins of plant origin (e.g. soybean, wheat) or animal protein (e.g. beef protein). In their composition, there are often also underestimated egg proteins and forgotten, yet extremely nutritionally valuable egg albumin. Sometimes manufacturers go a step further and enrich their products with a package of vitamins, digestive enzymes or a small amount of healthy fats. As a result, a good quality protein complex can successfully replace a low carbohydrate meal.
Protein multi-complexes have a high anabolic potential. In addition, they provide effective, many-hours’ protection against catabolism, and when used after an intense physical exercise accelerate muscle recovery. They are recommended primarily to those who are seeking a rapid growth of muscle mass.
